Well, I’ve definitely let this blog fall by the wayside for the past couple of weeks… Starting a new job has taken a lot more out of me than I expected! But I’m enjoying it so far, and it’s extremely nice to know I’ll have a better paycheck at the end of the day.
Last night I had the night off, though, and the Bearded One was still at work after I got home from dinner and margaritas with the bff*, and I was overcome with a fit of cleaning. This does not necessarily happen as much as it should with me, so I decided to take advantage of it while I could and took everything out of the cupboards, off the sink (which is my de facto closet most days), and reorganized and cleaned and scrubbed to my heart’s content. I was really happy with how it turned out!
However, it got me thinking about how I needed to go on a cleaning spree throughout the rest of the house, and how I want to do some overhauling on the decor. While I’m really happy with all of my furniture, as I inherited a lot of my mother’s and we shared a very similar taste, the condo was unlived in for many years before I moved in and in some ways that shows. Now, the Bearded One and I are on a strict budget, so all of the daydreaming and Pinning I’ve done today will have to be done step by tiny step. However, I’ve written a list so far of things I think are doable and will greatly improve the feel of our home. First on the agenda: curtains for the bedroom.
Right now we have curtains, but they’re a little half-assed. I tried hanging them myself, but our curtain rod isn’t long enough- we’ve got almost wall-length windows in the bedroom and I think we’re going to have to special order rods that are long enough, and I’m planning on making our own curtains so they fit the window exactly. I was inspired by the curtains in Elena’s bedroom in the Vampire Diaries:
I love the soft floral look that makes her bedroom so homey and relaxing. Now, the Bearded One and I have a bedroom that is primarily blue themed, so I’m hoping to find a blue floral or paisley cloth to continue along those lines. So right now I’m obsessively searching online for the perfect fabric, but I may have to go to the giant wholesale fabric stores on Harry Hines to really feed my obsession.
So how about you? Has getting married turned any of you into DIY Pinterest Queens? For me, I think it’s the fact that I’m investing in a home rather than just a place where I live with a roommate now. This is where I’m starting a family, so I have a responsibility to make it liveable for other people as well. It also makes a fun discussion tool when talking to my friends and family who have also gotten married and/or bought homes recently. I think it’s a very fun stage of life to be in!
